This is the most uncomfortable comparison for us, which makes it the most useful. Mistral AI builds its own models in France. We are not their competitor on technology.
In one sentence: Mistral AI is a model maker, Surikat is a service that makes AI cheaper and shareable. On sovereignty our argument barely separates us from them, and we would rather write that than hide it. The real difference is cost per person and sharing.

Mistral AI designs and publishes its own models, some of them with open weights. A subscription with them goes straight to a model maker. With us it goes to a service that makes AI cheaper and shareable between several people.

A free tier and a student price
Their pricing page shows a free plan, plus an Education plan at $5.99 excluding tax per month, valid for at most twelve months for verified students. We have neither.

An offer for teams
The vendor shows a Team plan at $24.99 excluding tax per user per month, plus a $50 excluding tax monthly base fee. We have no professional multi-user offer: our Family plan is built for a household, not a company.

On sovereignty, the gap is thin
We put European processing forward. Mistral AI is a French company, and its privacy policy states that it prioritises providers located in the European Union. On that specific ground our argument barely sets us apart from them.

Nothing to switch off to stay out of training
Their privacy policy, updated 27 July 2026, states that inputs and outputs are used to train their models, subject to the user's objection, which can be raised from the account. With us there is nothing to raise.

We offer neither a development environment nor a collaborative workspace. That is not a gap we plan to close: it is the scope we chose, for people who do not want to configure anything.

- you want to try without paying, or you are a student;

Which models does Surikat use?
Open-weight models, offered as three levels (Surikat Small, Medium and Large) and executed on our own European infrastructure, never at their authors'. The most suitable level is picked automatically for each request, according to your plan.
Why go through you instead of subscribing to Mistral AI directly?
If you are on your own and want to support the model maker, subscribe with them, that is the honest answer. We become interesting with several people: 4 private accounts for €3.00 including tax per person per month, each with its own conversations and quota, against $14.99 excluding tax a month for one account with them (read on 28 July 2026).
